On behalf of the Winooski Natural Resources Conservation District, I'd like to personally thank you for showing an interest in the Basin Runner Campaign. We started this initiative as a way to do two things: raise awareness of conservation issues in the Winooski River Watershed and raise funds for conservation projects in Chittenden and Washington County.
Raising Awareness
Over the course of the year, WNRCD will host a series of community runs in select cities and towns throughout the watershed. These runs will be open to the public and will be focused on specific environmental issues within that geographic area. Runs will typically range between three and six miles with an option for more if folks are interested. We would love to see at least 10 participants at each run, but more or less will be just fine.
Raising Funds
In the hopes of raising funds for the continued work of the District, I have set an ambitious goal of running a total of 2011 miles on behalf of the District in 2011. That comes out to roughly 5.5 miles per day which may seem like a lot or a little depending on how you look at it. Folks who are interested in helping me reach this goal can do so by pledge their financial support to the District by becoming a member or by simply making a donation. These pledges will go towards ensuring that the great work of the District continues into the future. If you'd like to donate, click on the link in the sidebar on the right. Our goal is to raise $20,000 by the end of the year. We can do it with your help!
So please be sure to check back often. I'll make it a point to update this blog twice a week with event information, running updates, raffle drawings, campaign coverage, and anything else that I think you may be interested in.
Thanks again and I hope to see you out there.
